Prolactin (PRL), also known as luteotropic hormone or luteotropin, is a protein that is best known for its role in enabling mammals, usually females, to produce milk. It acts primarily on the mammary gland by promoting lactation, mammogenesis, mitogenesis and osmoregulation.
